Chef's Biography
In 2002 alongside his sister, Michael opened a restaurant called Mezzaluna in Ayr. After building it up in to a successful and busy restaurant they sold it in 2005 to fund Michael's new venture, the award winning Jefferson restaurant in Kilmarnock.
The restaurant opened late 2006 and Michael was at the helm until October this year when he decided it was time for a fresh challenge.
In his time at the Jefferson, the restaurant won Tam Cowan's Daily Record Hotplate award and was highly commended in the best new restaurant category of the DRAM licensed trade awards.
Alongside running restaurants, Michael also teaches regularly at the 'cook school at Braehead Foods' in Kilmarnock. Always up for a challenge, Michael has been a regular critic in the food column for the Scottish Sunday Mail magazine, Right at Home, giving his insight into the world of a chef. In his time writing, Michael's popularity has grown and his cookery feature went from 1/3 of a page to a full page due to increased demand for the column.
Other work has included recipes and supplements for Morrison's supermarket and cookery demos for Tesco.
Before retraining as a chef whilst working in various restaurants around glasgow city centre, Michael enjoyed a long and successful career as a DJ in some of the most famous clubs across Britain and the rest of the world. This saw him produce a number of dance records, with the most successful reaching number 13 in the UK charts, leading to an appearance on Top of The Pops.
Michael can now be currently found as the executive chef at The Cricklewood.
