Here at the Cricklewood, we are very proud to welcome Michael Kilkie, writer of the well respected cooking and recipe column in the Scottish Sunday Mail, as the new Head Chef at our restaurant.
Michael is the former owner of the award winning Jefferson restaurant in Kilmarnock, and has previously won the "Hot Plate of the Year" award. He was also runner up in the DRAM's "Best New Restaurant of the Year" award.
The team at the Cricklewood are delighted to welcome Kilkie and his expertise to their kitchen. With Michael's exciting take on modern Scottish cuisine, the residents of Bothwell will now have the chance to experience Michael's renowned cooking skills.
Michael Kilkie said: "I'm looking forward to bringing my culinary creations to all the Cricklewood customers. It's an exciting new challenge and I'm glad to be part of the team, here in Bothwell. Scottish fare is the way I like it and with my experience and knowledge, I hope you enjoy the new menu."
The Cricklewood is already recognized for its welcoming atmosphere and now with Kilkie at the helm, The Cricklewood will continue to produce high quality food at affordable prices in a cosy, local environment.
Chef's Biography
In 2002 alongside his sister, Michael opened a restaurant called Mezzaluna in Ayr. After building it up in to a successful and busy restaurant they sold it in 2005 to fund Michael's new venture, the award winning Jefferson restaurant in Kilmarnock.
The restaurant opened late 2006 and Michael was at the helm until October this year when he decided it was time for a fresh challenge.
In his time at the Jefferson, the restaurant won Tam Cowan's Daily Record Hotplate award and was highly commended in the best new restaurant category of the DRAM licensed trade awards.
Alongside running restaurants, Michael also teaches regularly at the 'cook school at Braehead Foods' in Kilmarnock. Always up for a challenge, Michael has been a regular critic in the food column for the Scottish Sunday Mail magazine, Right at Home, giving his insight into the world of a chef. In his time writing, Michael's popularity has grown and his cookery feature went from 1/3 of a page to a full page due to increased demand for the column.
Other work has included recipes and supplements for Morrison's supermarket and cookery demos for Tesco.
Before retraining as a chef whilst working in various restaurants around glasgow city centre, Michael enjoyed a long and successful career as a DJ in some of the most famous clubs across Britain and the rest of the world. This saw him produce a number of dance records, with the most successful reaching number 13 in the UK charts, leading to an appearance on Top of The Pops.
Michael can now be currently found as the executive chef at The Cricklewood.

As many of you are aware your local school Bothwell Primary is getting Refubished and the Fundraising Commitee are as always looking for generous donations, so I came up with the idea of Auctioning off our chef Michael Kilkie, who is also resident chef and columist for The Sunday Mail, And that raised over £250 to go toward the schools "Smart Board fund" Michael and I went to Mr/s Samwells House to cook and serve them and 8 of there Guests.
Since then we have came up with a great idea, That for every steak pie we sell we are going to donate 0.50p toward the schools "smart board fund"
So far since the new menu being launched we have raised over £60 per week.
We are supporting the school at every corner and we hope that you do the same!

Last week I was off to Argyll to a private estate to cook a 5 course dinner for 23 Tesco Extra store managers and their senior store bosses, the dinner was a roaring success and featured a couple of the dishes from our menu here at The Cricklewood.
At the weekend I was invited to The Red Hot Ball at The Thistle Hotel in Glasgow. Unfortunately due to our usual busy Saturday here at The Cricklewood I couldn't attend but I did offer a prize for the auction, to cook a meal for 6 at someone's home. Tam Cowan hosted the night and sold me to 2 separate tables at £1900 each, raising £3800 for the charity.
This week I'm going to help you stay away from the takeaways with a delicious Indian style chicken curry recipe for you all to try your hand at. Get the recipe <HERE>
Here at The Cricklewood it's business as usual with a few highlights to look forward to; our family fun day, Easter Sunday and the launch of our new bar and restaurant menus.
