Resident Pianist

Resident Pianist

Alison has been delighting diners with her eclectic musical stylings for the last three years. Regular guests know to expect the unexpected with a set that can range from Brubeck and Nat King Cole to Blink 182 and No Doubt.

Such a varied and wide ranging taste reveals this musicians background. Although classically trained on piano, she is also a self-taught guitarist and began song-writing at the age of 15.

Becoming lyricist and lead vocalist for local act ‘Novakane' at 16 not only gave Alison her first taste of the live gig scene but also brought her into contact with Scottish promoters.

Jumping at the chance to gain more experience in this field she assisted in promoting gigs for signed acts Jocasta, Cecil and Rachel Stamp in both Dundee and Edinburgh.

This brush with the ‘bright lights' prompted her move to London not long after her 17th birthday and she wasted no time in immersing herself in the city's music scene, amongst other things gaining further work experience with Bugbear Promotions for Camden famous Dublin Castle, a 2 month acoustic residency showcasing her own material at Covent Garden's ‘Rock Garden', finally becoming Journalist and PR Officer for leading music website Virtual-festivals.com which saw her not only liaising with major industry figures like Sony Music, Mean Fiddler and Hall or Nothing, but also writing features and interviewing artists and bands; The Dandy Warhols, Doves and Soulwax to name but a few.
Alison returned to her home town of Perth in 2001 after the opportunity arose to manage Ska-Punk act, PMX.

Inspired by the energy and vibrancy of Perth's emerging music scene she met the task head-on, organising local tours and events and introducing the band to London and Glasgow venues. This led to her also being asked to take over the role as promoter for venues Curly Lloyds and The Grill, booking acts for both venues, handling PR, organising Battle Of The Bands and running the popular open-mike night. She was also instrumental in securing the area's first ever Over 14's gig on licensed premises and this achievement, along with the desire to actively champion emerging young local talent led to her pioneering the successful Junior Battle Of The Bands Competition.

Alison took time out after the birth of her first child in 2003 and, after her amazing experiences working with other musicians, knew that the time was right to return to her first love - the piano; winning The Bothy residency in 2006. She has also provided music for events at venues such as Dunkeld House Hotel and Strathallan School and also runs The Bothy's thriving ‘Open Jam Session'.

Alison's ambition is to gain a teaching qualification and encouraged by her experience of playing music with children at Moncrieffe nursery, she began studying at Perth College last year where she hopes to gain a degree in musical performance.
